Eat a lot, but still thin? Why?

Why Some People Can Eat A Lot and Stay Thin

This may sound unfair? While most people are trying hard to control their weight, some even still have a slender body despite eating a lot.

It is estimated that between 60 to 70 percent of our body weight is determined by genes. But unfortunately, scientists have identified less than one-fifth of the genes in the human body.

Professor Michael Cowley, head of the Obesity and Diabetes Institute at Monash University, says that environmental factors such as how much we eat and the amount of physical activity we do every day determine about 30 to 40 percent of our body weight.

Michael also added that some people carry "fat gene" that makes them prone to gaining weight despite eating only a little. In contrast, others have genes that make them stay slim though not diet.

"Genes that affect appetite, which makes them eat less or give a signal when they feel full, and allows to minimize fat storage in the body and tends to turn it into energy," he explained to abc.net.au.

For those of you that are difficult skinny, do not be discouraged. Remain diligent exercise and adjust your eating patterns.
